Real Health Conversations
Real Health Conversations (Formerly Low-Carb Conversations) is hosted by Holly Jean Mullen, FNTP and features a variety of voices in the world of modern nutrition and health science, expressing many different points of view.

Today we present to you our final podcast of 2012 in Episode 65 of Low-Carb Conversations with Jimmy Moore & Friends! Co-hosts Jimmy and Dietitian Cassie along with their two guest friends chime in with more opinions on the latest and greatest health headlines to give their unique low-carb perspective on them. We're taking the next two months off from the podcast but will come back refreshed and ready to roll again with lots of new low-carb and Paleo bloggers in the new year. We are a LISTENER-SUPPORTED podcast and appreciate all the fantastic donations that so many of you have provided us. If you enjoy what you hear on "Low-Carb Conversations" and want to help us out, then you can make a donation to keep us on the air in 2013.

We're loaded with an awesome hour-long conversation for you today as Jimmy and Dietitian Cassie welcome two new low-carb podcasters with opinions to spare. They are Kelly McCausey from the "Low Carb Mom" blog and Lynn Terry from the "Traveling Low Carb" blog who are the co-hosts of a brand new podcast called the "90 Day Low Carb Challenge." Listen in as we talk about some dubious "signs" you'll live to be 100 years old, vegan Dr. Joel Fuhrman's nonsensical nutritional advice for being healthy, whether beans are a good option for controlling diabetes, how new research shows moderate weight loss does very little to lower heart disease risk in people with diabetes, whether heavy statin drug use can actually lead to greater vascular calcification and whether obsessing over your exercise routine is doing more harm than good. Plus, don't miss the recipe time at the end of today's episode. It's our final episode of the year and we invite you to pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and let's talk!

We've got another great show to share with you today in Episode 64 of Low-Carb Conversations with Jimmy Moore & Friends! Your congenial co-hosts Jimmy and Dietitian Cassie stand ready to lead the conversation challenging the latest health headlines that are permeating our culture. There's a lot of garbage information being put out there that real people are unfortunately believing is true which is why we are privileged to bring you this show week after week. If you appreciate the service we are providing with this podcast, then don't forget we are LISTENER-SUPPORTED and rely on YOU our listeners to keep it on the air. If you enjoy what you hear on "Low-Carb Conversations" and want to help us out, then you can make a donation so we can keep pumping out information that takes on the conventional wisdom that pervades diet, fitness and health. THANKS so much for your amazing support!

We've got a fantastic show for you today as Jimmy and Dietitian Cassie welcome to the Virtual Porch a wonderful husband-wife team to share their opinions about the health headlines. They are Louise Hendon from the "Ancestral Chef" blog and her husband Jeremy Hendon from the "Simple Health" blog who are the owners of two excellent businesses to help Paleo and low-carb enthusiasts alike: Louise's Foods and Paleo Living Magazine. Listen in to get their take on why they believe gluten-free eating is a big deal backed by science and personal experience, why the battle against wheat is justified, whether a Harvard study explaining Atkins diet weight regain is valid or not, a "bad science" research example claiming countries that eat the most chocolate win the most Nobel prizes (yeah right!), reasons why the severely obese category is growing at a lightning pace, how not getting enough sleep is detrimental not just to your body but also your fat cells, Dr. Andrew Weil's new focus on carbohydrate density, and Chris Kresser's recent column dismissing the fears over the nutrate and nutrite concerns of bacon. And Louise has a scrumptious, mouthwatering recipe for you to try in your own kitchen at the end of today's show. We can't wait to have you join in on the conversation today, so pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and let's talk!

We've got two more of those fabulous peeps to share with you today as we welcome our guest friends Victoria Johnson from the "Thin Thighs Program" and Stanley Fishman from the "Tender Grassfed Meats" blog (Stanley is also the author of two outstanding books called Tender Grassfed Meat: Traditional Ways to Cook Healthy Meat and Tender Grassfed Barbecue: Traditional, Primal and Paleo and was featured on "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" podcast in Episode 342 and Episode 518). Listen in today as Jimmy, Cassie, Victoria and Stanley chime in about why the Atkins and Dukan diet are NOT the same, a grocery store in New York state giving away FREE statins, an HMO offering up a not-so-healthy health dessert, revelations that the recent egg yolks as bad as cigarettes study was tied to Big Pharma, a discussion of the continued fear of saturated fat, why our hunter-gatherer ancestors never got fat and a gentle warning about letting diet bias get in the way of our nutritional education (yes, even those of us who support healthy low-carb living!). Plus, as always, we've got some delicious low-carb recipes to tantalize your taste buds at the end of the show. It's time to pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and let's talk about it on the Virtual Porch!

They did a spectacular job chiming in with Jimmy and Cassie on a wide variety of hot health topics, including that recent study showing high normal blood sugar levels can make you a pea-brain, the late Michael Clarke Duncan's tragic death from a myocardial infarction in July that took place three years after he began a vegan diet, controversy over Wheat Belly author Dr. William Davis calling wheat a "perfect, chronic poison," the new dietitian trend in grocery store marketing, an update on a Paleo diet blogger's (Steve Cooksey from the "Diabetes Warrior" blog) First Amendment lawsuit against dietitians in North Carolina who wanted to shut him down, a pro-dietary fat column out of Australia (where Jimmy will be doing a three-week speaking tour in November), even more good news for low-carb diets in a recent meta-analysis and an optimistic post by The Nutrition & Metabolism Society's Dr. Richard Feinman blog post on some exciting new evidence that low-carbohydrate nutrition is finally starting to penetrate into mainstream scientific research circles. And don't miss some truly delicious and nutritious recipes shared by Holly and George at the end of the show! You know what to do: pull up a chair, grab a cup of coffee and let's talk about it on the Virtual Porch!
