Real Health Conversations
Real Health Conversations (Formerly Low-Carb Conversations) is hosted by Holly Jean Mullen, FNTP and features a variety of voices in the world of modern nutrition and health science, expressing many different points of view.

Episode 398

This week on the Low Carb Conversations Podcast Amber and Holly Jean chat with Kiran Krishnan, microbiologist and co-founder of Microbiome Labs. Kiran has a background in research and has been at the forefront of designing clinical trials for the supplement industry. His company, Microbiome Labs, is dedicated to continued research on the microbiome, as well as providing research based probiotics and other supplements to practitioners. He also has a lot of great videos on YouTube if you want to go on a deep dive!

In this episode we talk with Kiran about the importance of a balanced and healthy microbiome (gut bugs!) and how that relates to our immune system and ability to fight off all forms of pathogens from viruses and bacteria to other bugs. We also talk about the connection between gut health and gut microbiome and how that impacts the oral and skin microbiome. Science is just scratching the surface of the human microbiome and how probiotics and other support can help with overall health and wellness. This is a great episode to come back to as a reminder of how much our gut health impacts the rest of the body.

Episode 396

Welcome to Low Carb Conversations with Leah Williamson, Holly Jean Barrett and Amber Horn, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners.

On this episode Leah, Holly Jean, and Amber catch up and recap the amazing guests we’ve had on over the last month.

Then the discussion shifts to the importance of self care and what it means to them. Self-care is a popular buzz word, but what do people really think when they think of taking time for self-care. Or, perhaps a better question is, how many people make an effort to actually prioritize self-care?

On this episode our hosts explore the expectations and realities of what self-care looks like. They also share their personal tips for self care. Here is a hint: Self-care is not just an act of luxury, taking bubble baths, or pampering yourself.  Tune in to find out how to find rest and restoration in daily activities and practices – no day spa necessary.

Articles Discussed:

  • Why your self-care isn’t working
    • “Self-care is just one fraction of the broader concept of self-love. Self-love includes, but is not limited to, recognizing your self-worth, being kind toward yourself, and fostering your self-growth throughout the course of your life. If your self-care strategies are not sticking, it may be because you are lacking the foundation of self-love.”
  • It’s time to redefine self-care
    • “Self-care is anything your future self will thank your present self for doing”

Ready to show yourself some self-love this fall? Join Holly Jean in her annual group cleanse, REVIVE: GI Reset.

The Fall 2020 GI-RESET is perfectly timed to support the circadian rhythms of your body and the naturally occurring processes of seasonal detoxification.

The REVIVE GI Reset program runs from Monday November 2 – Monday November 23. The focus is on gut healing and supporting seasonal detoxification.

This is the SELF Care RESET!

With the option to choose from different levels of participation, this is an accessible, online program designed to benefit anyone looking to make time for self-care, get back on track with nutrition, kick cravings, reduce inflammation, and provide an opportunity to revive and repair their bodies from the inside out.
