Episode 378

Welcome to Low Carb Conversations with Leah Williamson, Holly Jean Barrett and Amber Horn, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners.

This week on Low Carb Conversations with FNTPs Leah, Holly Jean and Amber, the ladies are all together again for their monthly recap.

In this episode we chat about our guests this past month and give you a highlight reel of our favorite moments. We had some wonderful guests on with a range of topics. Leah and Amber interviewed Cynthia Thurlow and Dr. Eva Detko. They talked with Cynthia about her individualized approach to Intermittent Fasting and how to tailor it to your unique needs. There are so many adjustments you can make to find something that works for you. The following week we had Dr. Eva Detko on talking about our vagus nerve and how important it is for self regulating, immune function, digestion, and overall health and well-being. The vagus nerve is like a muscle and needs to be flexed regularly, so definitely check out that episode to learn more! Holly Jean and Leah chatted with Abel James, The Fat Burning Man, about a little bit of everything from new projects, to personal and health freedom, and why you should always listen to you mother!

In news this Episode Holly mentions an online Cleanse you can join. You can find out more details by reaching out to Holly here.

Leah, Amber and Holly Jean discuss a new man-made fat that is low in calories and isn’t absorbed by the body. Would you give this a try? Listen in to hear what we think. Also, Amber found a great article on why breathing is so important especially when wearing a face mask.

Episode 377

Our guest today is Abel James – New York Times Bestselling Author, Musician, and Online Creator and the man behind the Wild Diet. He’s host of the award-winning Fat-Burning Man Show, rated as Apple’s #1 Health Podcast in 8 countries with over 50 million downloads and 2000+ 5-star REVIEWS .

In this episode, Abel shares his shocking story of how western medicine almost killed him and the amazing ways in which proper nutrition brought him back to living in vibrant health. He reminds us that we don’t have to fear fat!

With so much conflicting and misinformation circulating in the news media, we have an interesting discussion around the ways in which tactics of divisiveness are used to control messages of true health through censorship and shadow banning. He stresses the importance of being able to express and be tolerant of different ideas.

Even though this episode was recorded in early May and we discuss current events, the conversation still has relevance, perhaps even more, still today. We hope you enjoy!

Episode Quote: “You can get more freedom by being healthy, and your freedom is taken away – your sovereignty, your ability to be your full, best self – is taken away when you don’t have your health.”

Your host, Dr. Eva Detko, became a health advocate through her own healing journey. Following a viral infection, she ended up bed-ridden with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. The conventional approach had no solutions for her, so she tackled the task of finding the root cause of her condition.

She realized that the real reason her body had not been able to cope with that viral infection was that she had overstimulated her nervous system for many years — the viral infection was merely a trigger for her CFS and fibromyalgia. Once she had addressed her nervous system dysfunction, she was able to get her life back.

She has since helped hundreds of clients overcome complex health issues by helping them restore their autonomic nervous system balance, which is critical to healing from any chronic condition.

She’s here to help you by sharing what she learned.

The Mind, Body & Vagus Nerve Connection Summit will help you understand:

Welcome to Low Carb Conversations with Leah Williamson, Holly Jean Barrett and Amber Horn, Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners.

This week on the Low Carb Conversations Podcast Leah and Amber interview Dr Eva Detko about the Vagus Nerve.

The Vagus Nerve is so important to our health as it touches so many of our major organs.  We have always known there is something pretty important about this nerve but Dr Eva takes us on a deeper dive.  We discuss how to stimulate our immunity (and there has never been a better time!) using the vagus nerve and can we also use the vagus nerve to help other issues like digestion?

The vagus nerve is the longest nerve of the human autonomic nervous system. Its fibers connect to all of your body’s organs from the neck down (except the adrenal glands), making it the primary component of your parasympathetic nervous system.

Playing a key role in areas such as heart rate, breathing rate, gastrointestinal peristalsis, sweating, detoxification and more, optimal vagus nerve function is critical to maintaining one’s health and longevity.

Because low vagal tone has been linked to:
+ Chronic fatigue
+ Fibromyalgia
+ Heart disease
+ Diabetes
+ IBS/IBD/SIBO/leaky gut
+ Autoimmune conditions
+ Neurological conditions
+ Cancer
+ And more!

You simply CANNOT properly address health issues — like gut, immune system or brain disorders — WITHOUT optimizing vagus nerve function!

In this 12-page eGuide, you’ll find strategies to increase your vagal tone, plus facts on polyvagal theory, indications of low vagal tone and the connection between strong vagus function and a healthy immune system.

Episode 375

This week on the podcast Leah and Amber interview Cynthia Thurlow, fellow FNTP and Nurse Practitioner, Nutrition and Intermittent Fasting expert, and host of the Everyday Wellness Podcast.

We had such a great time nerding out with Cynthia about intermittent fasting. We really dove into who it’s beneficial for, what type of eating window works best. As well as how a long fast in times of uncertainty and stress is probably not the best thing for your health! We also had a great discussion about the best time to fast and how to truly listen to your body to find what works for you as an individual.

If you want to learn more about fasting, Cynthia has a Intermittent Fasting Guide on her website here, as well as an amazing TED talk for you to check out.
